So I wanted to use a different DNS if my connections suddenly worked then I'd have known that my ISP was interfering via their DNS. If they did this they would use DNS to translate your requested URL to a wrong IP address. In my case they weren't but I guess I just wanted to confirm. If you try to send traffic to a website they don't want you to use, they could block or reroute your traffic somewhere else if they chose to. Your ISP can see where your internet traffic is going.
